Volleyball Academy
Students selected for the Volleyball Academy participate in specialised classes during their mainstream HPE lessons as well as in additional weekly training sessions. These classes include theoretical units aligned with the Australian Curriculum and practical sessions focused on developing volleyball skills under the guidance of accredited and specialist coaches. Students in the senior years participate in practical sessions through the subject Sport and Recreation (VAC).
Sports (district, regional, state)
All students have the opportunity to trial for SSHS Gala day teams for summer and winter seasons. Students represent the school in their selected sport and play against schools in the Karawatha district. SSHS has a proud and successful history in futsal and football in particular, with teams regularly winning metro competitions.
Sunnybank SHS offers students opportunities to represent their school, region and state in a variety of sports. Students trial to be selected in Eastern Taipans teams. Selection in these teams creates pathways to Met West and State competitions.

Volleyball
Australia has partnered with Sunnybank State High School since 2024, providing
ongoing access to specialist coaching clinics for students in the Volleyball
Academy. This partnership enhances the quality of training available to
students.
